Spotlight on Success: Isaiah Gentry

Current Employer: PhilanthroFilms

Current Title: Asset Manager

High School Attended : Lowndes High

Isaiah Gentry knew early on that he wanted to take a different path. Instead of spending years in a classroom only to eventually climb the career ladder, he decided to get a head start by jumping straight into the workforce. Although he initially planned to attend Mercer University or Kennesaw State University for mechanical engineering, discovering the AVT&F (film) program at Lowndes High School changed everything. He realized that hands-on experience was the key to success in the film industry—and he was ready to dive in.

Isaiah’s journey began at a summer camp hosted by PhilanthroFilms, where he impressed the team with his dedication and passion. After working on two feature films—"The Holiday Dating Guide" and "72 Hours"—he was offered a full-time position. Starting as a Workforce Developer, he quickly proved himself and transitioned into his current role as an Asset Manager, overseeing gear, training newcomers, and working directly with clients.

Early on, Isaiah faced challenges with his age and limited experience. Many doubted the legitimacy of his work, assuming it was tied to student projects. Instead of getting discouraged, he turned to self-education—studying industry practices, watching tutorials, and learning everything he could to grow his knowledge and skills. His perseverance paid off. One of the proudest moments in his career so far was the opportunity to work alongside industry legends like James Franco and Tommy Lee Jones.

Entering the workforce early not only gave Isaiah professional momentum—it also positively impacted his personal life, allowing him to secure stable housing, travel, and even feel more confident managing real-world responsibilities like taxes. Along the way, he developed skills he didn’t expect to learn so quickly, including the ability to present himself and his company professionally at career fairs and client meetings.

Isaiah continues to push himself forward and is currently pursuing his aerial lift certification to operate machinery commonly used on film sets, such as scissor lifts and condors.

When asked what advice he would give to a high school student unsure of their next step, Isaiah’s message is clear: “Do exactly what you want to do, and chase it. Study, read, and watch everything you can about your industry.”
To parents who are hesitant about their child entering the workforce right away, Isaiah offers reassurance: “They can do it. They can make it and be financially well off. It may take time, but they can do it.”

If given the chance to do it all over again, Isaiah wouldn’t change a thing. He credits his wife for being his biggest supporter, standing by him even when he didn’t feel he deserved it.

Isaiah Gentry’s story is a powerful example of what’s possible when passion meets hard work—and Workforce University is proud to celebrate his journey.
